We humbly ask you for financial support for Hannah Bhagwandeen, our daughter, who was born on 17th December, 2007. At birth she was given a clean bill of health. ..
When Hannah was two months old we noticed that she was jaundiced. Her Pediatric Surgeon advised us that she needed a liver transplant immediately, since her liver was already damaged and 'deteriorating rapidly'.
After making contact with hospitals world-wide Johns Hopkins Medicine International agreed to accept Hannah.
On Monday 14th April, 2008 a Kasai operation was done, where the clogged bile ducts were removed and her intestines were joined directly to her liver. An open biopsy was also performed, where a wedge of her liver was removed for further analysis. The operation confirmed that she had Biliary Atresia and the biospy report stated that there was already extensive damage to Hannah's liver. It was very enlarged, scarred and was hardening.
Hannah has been placed on several special medication and formula many of which she has to take until she is two years old, many of which are very expensive and are not available in Trinidad and Tobago.
As of 8th May, 2008, our bill at Hopkins is estimated at eighty thousand (US$80,000) United States dollars.
Estimated cost of the liver transplant is roughly three hundred thousand (US$300,000) United States dollars, Excluding doctors fees, medication, formula and follow-up treatment.
This baby, our first and only child, is the pride and joy of her family. She has exhausted us emotionally and financially, but her smile can brighten even the dullest day. Despite all she has gone through and has to face, Hannah is the most beautiful and happy baby. We are trying all we can in an effort to save our daughter's life.
